Featured Design – Home Works

This Cardell Featured Design is a fantastic kitchen remodel by Linda Ragan of Home Works in Lafayette, Indiana.

Linda describes the remodel below:

This kitchen was inspired by my customer’s lack of lighting in her previous kitchen. So to brighten things up, we removed the old wall paper, added can (recessed) lighting, installed an engineered walnut floor and replaced the original medium-toned oak cabinets with Soft White with Pewter Glaze Cardell Cabinetry. The wall paint we used is named "Baby Turtle" and makes the cabinets pop! In the new cabinet layout we eliminated blind corners and increased the depth and height of the wall cabinetry to add optimum storage space to the kitchen. We also replaced a peninsula that had overhead cabinetry with an island for a more open feel. Our customer now feels like she has a "Showroom" kitchen!

We agree that this truly is a Showroom Kitchen. The cabinets that were selected are our Classic II Flat Panel Maple Full Overlay cabinets painted in Designer Soft White with a Pewter Glaze. Our cabinet glazes are a wonderful way to bring out highlight color, in this instance the Pewter Glaze is an excellent accent for the full kitchen backsplash. The wall paint that Linda mentions above that makes the cabinets "pop" is Benjamin Moore’s Baby Turtle (515).

The design also makes creative use of one of our arched fireplace valances (FPAV54) above the sink as a window headrail. So now, not only does the headrail match the rest of the kitchen, but it looks just plain fabulous!

Our large crown molding (CMLG8) is installed around the upper perimeter of the wall cabinets and completes the look of the kitchen. Crown molding comes in many different styles and is one of the easiest things you can do to your kitchen that can really change the look and improve the overall aesthetic feel of a room.

The spacious island bar was created by combining a base cabinet (B45) with additional cabinet doors acting as side panels (2 x RD2430) and back panels (3 x RD1530). The bold toe-kick of the island is created using casing molding (SBC). The casing molding and crown molding really work well to bring the kitchen together with a look reminiscent of Italianate style architecture.

The new floor is an Armstrong engineered Walnut and gives the kitchen the beautiful look of hardwood planking.
